Oil & Gas / Energy Industry
Specialized protection and strengthening for the Kingdom's most vital sector
The oil and gas industry is the lifeblood of Saudi Arabia's economy. From massive processing facilities at Jubail and Yanbu to offshore platforms in the Arabian Gulf and remote pumping stations across the Empty Quarter, this sector operates under extreme conditions: corrosive atmospheres, high temperatures, pressure cycles, and aggressive chemical exposure. Asset integrity is not just an operational goal—it is a safety and environmental imperative.
At Arabian Company for Protection and Strengthening, we bring decades of specialized experience to the energy sector. Our engineering-led solutions help operators extend asset life, reduce unplanned downtime, and maintain compliance with the rigorous standards of Saudi Aramco, SABIC, and other industry leaders. We understand that in this industry, every hour of lost production carries significant cost, and every failure carries potential safety and environmental consequences.
Why the Oil & Gas Sector Requires Specialized Protection
Hydrocarbon facilities face a unique combination of degradation mechanisms that require integrated protection strategies.
- Corrosion under insulation (CUI): A hidden but pervasive threat to piping and vessels.
- Sour service (H₂S): Hydrogen sulfide attack on carbon steel.
- Chloride stress corrosion cracking: Affecting stainless steel in offshore and coastal facilities.
- High-temperature oxidation and sulfidation.
- Fire exposure risk: Hydrocarbon fires can reach over 1000°C within minutes.
- Cyclic loading and vibration: From rotating equipment and flow-induced forces.
- Concrete degradation: Due to sulfate attack, oil contamination, and reinforcement corrosion.
Our Services for the Oil & Gas / Energy Industry
We deliver a comprehensive range of protection, strengthening, and durability services tailored to the specific needs of upstream, midstream, and downstream facilities.
Cathodic Protection (CP) Systems
Corrosion of buried pipelines, tank bottoms, and offshore structures is an electrochemical process that cathodic protection can stop completely. We design, supply, install, and commission CP systems for the full range of energy assets.
Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP)
- Mixed metal oxide (MMO) titanium anodes for long life (40+ years).
- Transformer/rectifier units with remote monitoring capabilities.
- Ideal for long-distance pipelines, large tank farms, and jetties.
Galvanic (Sacrificial) Cathodic Protection
- Zinc, aluminum, or magnesium anodes for localized protection.
- No external power required – simple and low-maintenance.
- Applied to offshore jacket legs, vessel internals, and short pipeline sections.
Our CP process
- Current density requirement survey and soil/resistivity testing.
- Detailed engineering to Saudi Aramco and NACE standards.
- Installation with minimal disruption to operations.
- Commissioning and depolarization testing to verify protection.
- Ongoing monitoring and maintenance programs.
Industrial Coating & Lining
Protective coatings are the first line of defense for both steel and concrete in hydrocarbon facilities. We apply high-performance systems that withstand extreme temperatures, chemical exposure, and mechanical abuse.
Steel coatings
- Zinc-rich primers: Sacrificial protection for carbon steel (Aramco approved).
- Epoxy coatings: High chemical resistance for immersion and atmospheric service.
- Polyurethane and polysiloxane topcoats: UV stability and color retention for aboveground structures.
- High-temperature coatings: For piping and equipment operating up to 600°C.
- Thermal spray aluminum (TSA): Long-term protection for offshore topsides and splash zones.
Tank and vessel linings
- Novolac epoxy and vinyl ester linings for chemical storage tanks.
- Glass flake reinforced linings for aggressive hydrocarbon service.
- Potable water tank linings (WRAS/NSF approved).
- Secondary containment linings for bund areas.
Concrete coatings
- Epoxy and polyurea linings for secondary containment.
- Anti-carbonation coatings for reinforced concrete structures.
- Chemical-resistant toppings for process areas.
All coating work is executed with strict adherence to surface preparation standards (SSPC-SP5/NACE No. 1, SP10, etc.) and with qualified applicators.
Passive Fire Protection (PFP)
In the event of a hydrocarbon fire, structural steel loses load capacity within minutes. Passive fire protection insulates critical members, providing the essential time for emergency response and safe evacuation. We are approved applicators for leading PFP systems.
Types of PFP we apply
- Intumescent coatings: Thin-film epoxy or solvent-based systems that expand to form insulating char. Used for structural steel, vessel skirts, and pipe supports.
- Cementitious fireproofing: Spray-applied, lightweight materials for thicker builds. Economical for large areas and less demanding aesthetics.
- Fire-resistant boards: Calcium silicate and mineral wool systems for equipment and cable trays.
Certified for hydrocarbon fire curves
- Hydrocarbon (HC) and hydrocarbon modified (HCM) fire curves.
- Jet fire scenarios for high-risk areas.
- Third-party certified systems (UL, EN, ISO).
Typical applications
- Structural steel in process areas.
- Vessel skirts and supports.
- Pipe racks and bridges.
- LPG sphere and bullet supports.
- Cable trays and electrical raceways.
- Firestop systems for wall and floor penetrations.
Concrete Repair & Strengthening
Concrete foundations, bund walls, and blast walls in oil and gas facilities are exposed to chemical attack, oil contamination, and heavy dynamic loads. We restore and upgrade these critical elements.
- Spalling repair and section restoration: Removal of contaminated concrete, rebar cleaning and coating, and rebuilding with high-strength repair mortars.
- Structural strengthening: CFRP wrapping for columns and beams; steel plate bonding for increased capacity.
- Crack injection: Epoxy for structural cracks; polyurethane for active leaks.
- Foundation grouting: Epoxy or cementitious grouting under machinery baseplates and soleplates.
- Blast wall repair and upgrading: Maintaining the integrity of safety-critical barriers.
Soil Injection & Foundation Stabilization
Settling foundations of storage tanks, vessels, and equipment can lead to stress, leakage, and operational risk. We stabilize soils and lift settled foundations using specialized grouting techniques.
- Chemical grouting: Permeation grouting to strengthen loose sands.
- Compaction grouting: Low-mobility grout to densify soils and lift structures.
- Resin injection: Expanding polyurethane resins for void filling and lifting.
- Underpinning: For severely affected foundations.
Post-Tensioning Systems
For large concrete structures such as LNG tanks, containment walls, and heavy-duty industrial slabs, post-tensioning provides active reinforcement that prevents cracking and ensures long-term durability.
- Design and installation of bonded and unbonded post-tensioning systems.
- External post-tensioning for strengthening existing structures.
- Grouting and anchorage protection.
- Maintenance and repair of existing post-tensioned structures.
Structural Evaluation & Non-Destructive Testing
Before designing any repair or protection system, we thoroughly assess the current condition of your assets using advanced NDT methods.
- Half-cell potential mapping for corrosion activity.
- Rebar locating and cover measurement.
- Ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) for concrete quality.
- Impact echo for void detection.
- Ferroscan and ground-penetrating radar (GPR).
- Carbonation and chloride penetration testing.
